I'm so glad you're here!

I am so excited to get together soon for your family session! Through my years of being a photographer I've learned what looks great in photos and what doesn't look great - which is why I created this style guide! This guide is mostly for family sessions, but some advice can translate over to couples sessions. Follow along for some advice on what I recommend prior to your session!

if you take one thing from this guide...

Make sure it's this - Be yourself! These sessions should reflect you and your beautiful family! Great clothing choices enhance the photos, but the most important things are that you're surrounded by the ones you love and you're having a great time! I'll make you look amazing no matter what!

Coordinate your outfits

Don't match - Coordinate! Pick a color and have everyone pick something with their outfit in that color! Don't be afraid to mix in different patterns and textures. This way you can find an outfit that makes everyone comfortable! Gone are the days of everyone wearing white shirts and khaki pants for family sessions!

The best way to start to find an outfit - find a piece that someone in the family (maybe mom?) loves, and then have everyone else coordinate with that color. For fall chose warm colors; think different shades of maroons, mustards, browns, flannel. For summer sessions think breezy colors and patterns - light blues, whites, bright colors. Spring you can lighten up a little and add in some pastels with light accents. Winter I like to start with similar fall colors but go a little deeper - add in some greys, blacks, deep purples.

think about your layers!

Layers are great for the colder months (especially with little ones!). It gives texture and movement to your outfits, without looking too bulky. Think about layering a cardigan on top of a t-shirt or tank top with jeans, or even a flannel! Try to stay away from large jackets. Scarfs, hats, sweaters, tights, blazers, light jackets - the possibilities are endless!

what not to do!

Stay away from graphics and florescent colors. We want these photos to be timeless and stand the test of time - graphics tend to go out of style and will date your photos.

Don't wear things that make you uncomfortable! Your child doesn't want to wear the button up shirt - don't make them! You want them to feel comfortable in what they're wearing just as much as you want to be comfortable. This will help ensure you get that big smile you're looking for!

Try not to be too matchy-matchy! Coordinate, don't match! Wearing the same thing can make the photos look flat and boring - we want excitement and texture in these photos!
